UNIVERSITY COLLEGE FOR WOMEN
University College for Women, originally established in 1924 as the Zenena Intermediate College of Girls, began with just 7 students at the Golden Threshold premises in Hyderabad, India. It later became Osmania University College for Women, a constituent college of Osmania University with autonomous status granted in 1989. The Intermediate Science Course started in 1932, followed by bachelor degree courses in Arts and Social Sciences in 1935. In 1941, B.Ed and B.Sc. (Domestic Science) programs were introduced. In 1949, the campus relocated to the British Residency, the former residence of Colonel James Achilles Kirkpatrick, spread over 42 acres and recognized for its architectural and historical significance. Postgraduate courses began in 1979, and by 1993, specialized programs like MCA and MBA were added. The college holds NAAC 'A' Grade accreditation and was upgraded to university status in April 2022, becoming Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam, later renamed Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women's University in 2024. It currently serves about 4000 students, mostly first-generation learners from Telangana.
