National Institute of Technology, Patna

National Institute of Technology Patna (NIT Patna), formerly known as Bihar School of Engineering and Bihar College of Engineering, is a public engineering institution located in Patna, Bihar, India. Its origins trace back to 1886 with the establishment of a pleaders survey training school, which was later promoted to Bihar College of Engineering in 1924, making it the 6th oldest engineering institute in India. The institute was renamed NIT Patna by the Government of India on 28 January 2004, and in 2007 it was granted Institute of National Importance status under the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. It operates as an autonomous institute directly under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The campus spans 36 acres along Ashok Rajpath on the banks of the Ganges, with a new 125-acre campus being developed in Bihta. The institute includes departments of Architecture & Planning, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, and Mechanical Engineering, along with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Humanities & Social Sciences. It was ranked 55th among engineering colleges in India by NIRF in 2024. The institute hosts an annual combined cultural and technical fest called Corona and Melange.
