Govt. College for Women M.A.Road, Srinagar

Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar, also known as Women's College Srinagar, is situated on an 8.5 acre campus in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, near Lal Chowk and opposite SP College. The college was established in October 1950 by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir during the tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Mohamad Abdullah. It is affiliated with the Cluster University of Srinagar and recognized by the UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act 1956. The institution is accredited with a 'B+' grade by NAAC, though it is also noted elsewhere as having been accredited with Grade A. The college comprises several faculties, including Human Development, English, Sciences, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Humanities, Islamic and Oriental Learning, and Home Sciences. It offers degrees such as Bachelor of Science (Medical, Non-Medical, and Home Science), Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Journalism and Mass Communication and English, Integrated MCA, Master of Science (Home Science), and Bachelor of Nursing. The college is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee (75th anniversary) on October 15, 2025, with celebrations beginning through the Mehmooda Ali Shah Interdisciplinary Lecture Series earlier in the year.
