Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram (IISER Thiruvananthapuram or IISER-TVM) is an autonomous public university established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to bridge the gap between research and basic sciences' education at the undergraduate level. Its campus is located in Vithura, Kerala, about 40 km from Thiruvananthapuram, spanning around 200 acres in the foothills of the Western Ghats. It is one of the seven IISERs, all of which were declared Institutes of National Importance by the Parliament of India in 2012 through the NIT Amendment Act. The institute was established in 2008, following earlier IISERs at Pune, Kolkata, and Mohali. It awards Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (BS-MS) dual degrees and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, and plans to offer new BS-MS and M.Sc programmes from 2021. The campus includes academic buildings, research facilities, student hostels, sports infrastructure, dining halls, a library, health centre, and other amenities. The institute is governed by a board of governors, a Senate, and a director, with several deans overseeing academics, student affairs, research, and planning.
