NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is an autonomous institute offering courses in fashion, technology, and management, with its head office in New Delhi, India. It was established in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and became a statutory institute in 2006 under the NIFT Act, empowering it to grant its own degrees. NIFT now has 19 campuses across the country, including one in Srinagar, established in 2016, which serves the Jammu and Kashmir region from its location in Budgam. The institute offers undergraduate programmes such as Bachelor in Design and Bachelor in Fashion Technology, postgraduate degrees including Master's in Design, Master's in Fashion Technology, and Masters in Fashion Management, as well as full-time and part-time PhD programmes. Campuses are equipped with various labs, including computer labs, sewing machine labs, photography labs, pattern making and draping labs, weaving labs, dyeing and printing labs, and garment technology labs, along with student facilities such as libraries, hostels, canteens, health care, counseling services, and gyms. NIFT has also collaborated with the Ministry of Textiles to create an India-specific size chart and worked with the Indian Army to design its 2022 digital disruptive pattern camouflage uniform.
