Institute for Plasma Research
The Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) is a public research institute in India that conducts research in plasma science, covering basic plasma physics, magnetically confined hot plasmas, and industrial plasma technologies. It is described as the leading plasma physics organization in India and houses the country's largest tokamak, SST-1. IPR plays a major scientific and technical role in India's partnership in the international ITER fusion energy initiative and is part of the IndiGO consortium for gravitational wave research. The institute is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River in Gandhinagar district, roughly midway between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar cities. Its remote campuses include the Centre of Plasma Physics (CPP-IPR) and ITER-India, and it also runs the Facilitation Centre for Industrial Plasma Technologies (FCIPT), set up in 1997 to commercialize plasma-based technologies for industries.
