North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous)

North Lakhimpur College was established on 3 July 1952 in the then remote and underdeveloped region of North Lakhimpur, Assam. It became the first autonomous college in the state, receiving autonomous status from the University Grants Commission on 30 May 2013, making it the first college in Assam to gain this status. In 2012, it was accredited an 'A' grade by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.08. The college offered undergraduate, postgraduate, and research courses across 19 departments spanning Humanities, Social Science, Natural Science, Technology, and Physical Education, serving about 2,500 undergraduate students, 500 postgraduate students, and 200 research students. It also provided diploma and certificate courses, and previously offered Higher Secondary courses until they were discontinued in 2021. Facilities included a library, hostels, a gymnasium, and a playground with a synthetic track. The college's administration transitioned in February 2012 when it became a state university, with Dr. Biman Ch. Chetia serving as principal until September 2024. On 1 December 2023, the institution was upgraded to a state university by the Government of Assam.
