Bikali College

Goalpara College, located in Goalpara, Assam, was established on 8 August 1955 to serve students on the south bank of the Brahmaputra who lacked access to higher education, as the only existing college was at Dhubri. It began with 6 lecturers and 22 students under Principal Wazuddin Ahmed, and gained a permanent building by 1959. The college was brought under the deficit grant-in-aid system in 1962, and a science faculty was introduced in 1966, receiving deficit grants in 1974. Today, it has 16 departments and 110 staff, offering three-year BSc and BA degree courses as well as two-year Higher Secondary courses, with honours subjects in both Arts and Science. The campus spans about 10 acres and includes a library of around 27,000 books, subscribing to national and international journals. The college was accredited with an A+ grade by NAAC in 2023, and has received grants from DST and DBT for science and technology improvement. It also provides distance education through IGNOU, KKHSOU, and IDOL, and has hostel facilities for both boys and girls.
