Fatima Mata National College, Kollam
Fatima Mata National College is an autonomous aided college located in Kollam, Kerala, founded in 1951 by Bishop Jerome M. Fernandez, the first native Bishop of the Diocese of Quilon. It is named after Our Lady of Fatima, a Catholic title of the Virgin Mary, and was formally inaugurated on 29 December 1952 by Norman Cardinal Gilroy, Papal Legate to India. The college's motto is 'PER MATREM PRO PATRIA' (through the Mother for the Fatherland). It is affiliated to the University of Kerala, approved by the UGC, and accredited by NAAC with an 'A' Grade. In 2022, NIRF ranked it 92nd among colleges in India. Over the years, the college expanded from a first grade college offering Commerce, Economics, and Zoology to include departments such as Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics, along with postgraduate and research programs. In 2025, the college celebrated its Diamond Jubilee (75th anniversary), attended by Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan. Notable alumni include actor Suresh Gopi, politician N. K. Premachandran, and architect Eugene Pandala. The 2017 film 'Masterpiece' was also shot on campus.
