NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY, KANNUR

National Institute of Fashion Technology Kannur, known as NIFT Kannur, is one of 18 campuses of NIFT, an institution for Fashion, Design, Technology and Management. It is located in the Dharmashala locality of Taliparamba Taluk, outside Kannur city in Kerala, South India. The centre began functioning in June 2008 from a transit campus at Dharmashala and moved to its permanent campus there in 2011, situated on 10 acres of land allotted by the Kerala State Government under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles. It started with two undergraduate courses in 2008 with 51 students, and currently offers five undergraduate programmes—Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, and Fashion Technology—along with two postgraduate programmes, Masters in Fashion Management and Masters in Design. The institute has been involved in reviving the Khadi industry and training women under the Vasthra Mandalam scheme. In 2016, it reported over 85% placement for its students. The director is Colonel Akhil Kumar Kulshrestha, and the joint director is Mr. G Ramesh Babu.
