Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) was established in 2001 in Bangalore, Karnataka, by BVG Educational Trust, with branches spread across the state. The institute provides a range of courses in fashion, including a Diploma in Fashion Design & Boutique Management, Diploma in Fashion Communication & Fashion Journalism, BSc in Fashion & Apparel Design, Masters in Fashion Management, and various certification and short-term courses. IIFT is affiliated with Bangalore University and recognized by the Government of Karnataka to conduct the BSc degree course in Fashion & Apparel Design. It has also collaborated with Karnataka State Women's University for its PG Diploma, Diploma, and Masters programs, and is recognized by the Department of Handlooms & Textiles. The institute gained recognition by entering the Limca Book of Records in 2011 for displaying the most designs at its annual fashion show, Fashionite, held at Fashionite 2010. IIFT has participated in charity events and fashion weeks, and served as the educational partner for Bangalore Fashion Week 2020. Its BSc Fashion and Apparel Design program ranked 1st and 8th in Bangalore University in 2012, and 8th in 2013.
