NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY, CHENNAI

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Chennai is one of the 19 campuses of NIFT, an autonomous institute headquartered in New Delhi that offers courses in fashion, technology, and management under India's Ministry of Textiles. NIFT was originally established in 1986, and in 2006 it was declared a statutory institute under the NIFT Act, empowering it to grant its own degrees. The Chennai campus was set up in 1995, along with campuses in Kolkata, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, and Navi Mumbai. NIFT offers undergraduate programmes such as the Bachelor in Design (in Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Communication, and Fashion Interiors) and Bachelor in Fashion Technology, along with postgraduate programmes including Master's in Design, Master's in Fashion Technology, and Master's in Fashion Management, as well as doctoral programmes. Facilities across NIFT campuses include computer labs, sewing machine labs, photography labs, pattern making and draping labs, weaving labs, dyeing and printing labs, garment technology labs, leather and accessory design labs, libraries, hostels, canteens, health care services, and sports centers.
