Krishnagar B.Ed. College

Krishnagar Government College, established in 1846, is the oldest college in Nadia district, West Bengal. Lord Hardinge approved its establishment, and land was donated by Nadia Raj Srishchandra Roy and Maharani Swarnamoyee Devi of the Cossimbazar estate. Its palatial building was completed in 1856. The first principal was David Lester Richardson, a noted educationist and former principal of Presidency College, Calcutta. Other notable principals included Marcus Gustavus Rochfort, Loper Lethbridge, Umesh Chandra Dutta, Jyoti Bhusan Bhadury, R.N Gilcriest, Eagerton Smith, Rakhalraj Biswas, and Satish Chandra De. The college was originally affiliated with the University of Calcutta and is now affiliated with the University of Kalyani, along with recognition from NAAC and UGC. It offers four-year undergraduate courses in arts and science with honours, previously three-year UG courses under CBCS, and two-year postgraduate courses, across 16 academic departments offering 19 major programs. It was awarded an A grade (CGPA 3.17) by NAAC in 2015 and was named a 'college with potential for excellence' in 2010. Notable faculty included Ramtanu Lahiri, Md. Abdul Hai, Bishnu Dey, Subodh Chandra Sengupta, Khudiram Das, and Sudhir Chakravarti, while Khan Bahadur Abdul Hakim CIE taught mathematics there.
