It comprises nine constituent colleges and faculties, serving more than 6,000 students. SRIHER was founded by the Sri Ramachandra Education & Health Trust on September 11, 1985, by N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar, initially as a medical college. It was later awarded deemed-to-be-university status in September 1994. Academically, the institute offers a four-and-a-half-year M.B.B.S. course with a one-year compulsory rotating internship, with 250 seats filled through the NEET UG exam.
