Sanatan Dharma College Ambala Cantt.
Sanatan Dharma College, known as S.D. College, was established in 1916 in Lahore, then the capital of undivided Punjab, by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and Pandit Deen Dayal Vachaspati, with Pandit Rekhi Ram instrumental in fundraising. After the partition of India in 1947, the college was uprooted from Lahore and re-established near Ambala Cantonment in 1948, largely due to efforts of Goswami Ganesh Dutt and the college management. The foundation stone at Ambala was laid by Rajendra Prasad, India's first President, and the 1949 convocation was addressed by Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The college is affiliated to Kurukshetra University for academic purposes and is run by the S.D. College Society, New Delhi, under the parent body Sanatan Dharma Pratinidhi Sabha, New Delhi. It has an NSS unit with 123 volunteers. In 2010, the UGC granted it 'College with Potential for Excellence' status, renewed in 2014 for 2014–2019. It is accredited grade 'A+' by NAAC. Notable alumni include Sushma Swaraj and Nobel laureate Abdus Salam.
