SPICER ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY

Spicer Adventist University is a Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning in Aundh, Pune, India, regarded as the church's flagship provider of higher education in the country and part of the world's second largest Christian school system. It began as the South India Training School in Coimbatore and, under the leadership of Gentry G. Lowry, relocated to Bangalore in 1918, where it was renamed Spicer College in honor of missionary William A. Spicer. The institution achieved senior college status in 1946 and was known as Spicer Memorial College until 2014, when it was granted university status by the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra. The campus includes administrative, library, science, education, religion, agriculture, and industrial arts buildings, as well as a higher secondary school. Most students are Seventh-day Adventist Church members, with weekly Sabbath observance, vespers services, and religious forums forming part of campus life; basketball and football are popular sports. The college celebrated its centenary in early 2015. In 2018 and 2019, the university faced controversies involving forged PhD certificates and admission irregularities.
