REGIONAL AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH STATION, KUMARAKOM

Regional Agricultural Research Station, Kumarakom is listed among the research stations functioning under Kerala Agricultural University (KAU), which is a state agricultural university recognised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and headquartered in Vellanikkara, Kerala. KAU was established on 24 February 1971 and began functioning on 1 February 1972, taking over several existing agricultural and animal husbandry research stations at that time. The Kumarakom station is one of many such regional agricultural research stations spread across Kerala, alongside others like RARS Pattambi, RARS Pilicode, and RARS Ambalavayal, which support KAU's mission of research and extension in agriculture. In addition to the research station, KAU also operates a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Kumarakom, Kottayam, as part of its Training & Extension Centres network, which provides agricultural training and outreach services to farmers in the region. The station falls under the broader administrative and academic structure of Kerala Agricultural University, which conducts education, research, and extension activities in agriculture, forestry, and related fields through its various faculties, colleges, and research institutions located throughout Kerala.
