Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), originally founded as Berry White Medical School in 1900 with a large donation from Sir John Berry White, is a government medical school and hospital located in Dibrugarh, Assam, India. It was the first medical college in Assam and the whole of Northeast India, and functions as the tertiary medical referral centre for upper Assam and neighbouring states, including Arunachal Pradesh. It was renamed Assam Medical College and Hospital on 3 November 1947, a date celebrated annually as Foundation Day. The 450-acre college has been ranked 62 among government institutes and rated "AAA+" by the National Medical Commission with a score of 273.5. It offers admission to 200 students each year since 2019, up from 170 previously. The college provides undergraduate and postgraduate education across numerous disciplines including Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Surgery, Pathology, and Dentistry. It runs outpatient and specialized departments covering many medical specialties, along with emergency services. In 1910, it opened India's first radiology department after importing the country's first X-ray machines. Notable alumni include Talimeren Ao and Upendra Devkota.
