Institute of Public Enterprises

The Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) was established in 1964 for the study of issues and policies relating to public enterprises. The idea was conceived by S S Khera, Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, who envisioned a research institution to study policies for public enterprises. V.V. Ramanadham, professor at Osmania University, developed this concept into IPE with support from D. S Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, establishing it as an autonomous, non-profit society. Management education began in 1980 with a three-year part-time MBA(PE) programme, followed in 1995 by a two-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. Currently, IPE offers various two-year PGP courses, including PGDM, PGDM-Marketing, PGDM-Banking, Insurance & Finance, PGDM-Human Resource Management, and PGDM-International Business, all recognised by AICTE. The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has recognised IPE as a Centre of Excellence in management sciences for doctoral studies, and seven universities recognise it for Ph.D. guidance in Commerce, Economics, Management, and Public Administration. IPE also serves as a training centre for IAS officers and other government and corporate officials. It has received awards for its CSR training partnership with IICA and a Five Star GRIHA rating in 2016.
