INSTITUTE OF HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT

The Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) is an autonomous technical educational research institute established by the Government of Kerala in 1987, with its headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram, India. Originally named the Institute of Human Resources Development for Electronics (IHRDE), it was later renamed IHRD. Within a short period, it grew into a network of more than 50 institutions, managing applied science colleges, engineering colleges, polytechnics, and technical schools, alongside running short and long-term employment-oriented and continuous education programmes. IHRD coordinates 10 engineering colleges, which were affiliated with the Cochin University of Science and Technology until 2014, and have been affiliated with A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University since 2015. It also coordinates 7 Model Polytechnic Colleges, 42 Applied Science Colleges (affiliated to the University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, University of Calicut, and Kannur University), and 15 Technical Higher Secondary Schools. In 2023, IHRD partnered with the Kerala Startup Mission to establish R&D centers for startups in its institutions over five years, and launched a collaborative learning program with the University of Cincinnati involving academic lectures for students and faculty of its engineering colleges.
