AMU MURSHIDABAD CENTRE

AMU Murshidabad Centre is one of the prominent educational institutions of Aligarh Muslim University, established in 2010 in the culturally enriched soil of Bengal. The Centre is accredited by NAAC in A grade and is empowered by Section 5(2)(C) of the AMU (Amendment) Act, 1981 and under Section 12(2) of the University Act [Act XL 1920 and AMU (Amendment) Act, 1972]. It is located at coordinates 24.5184°N 88.0441°E, about 40km from Farakka and 60km from Behrampore towns of Murshidabad, and lies 250km north of Kolkata on NH34. The nearest railway junction is Jangipur Road, approximately 8km away, while air access is available through Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. The centre traces its origins to the Aligarh Movement, which influenced Indian society broadly and Muslim society particularly, extending beyond Northern India during the 20th century. In 2008, AMU proposed five centres to the Government of India, which funded two—Malappuram and Murshidabad. AMU has since established centres at Malappuram (Kerala), Murshidabad, and Kishanganj (Bihar), with a site identified for Aurangabad (Maharashtra).
