Karnataka (Govt.) Polytechnic, also known as K.P.T., is a polytechnic institution located in Mangaluru, Karnataka, India. It was established in 1946 in a rented building in Pandeshwar under the Government of Madras State. Since 1954, the polytechnic has been functioning at its present campus in Kadri Hills, Mangalore, which spans 19 acres. At its founding, the institute offered four main three-year diploma programmes: civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and automobile engineering. Over time, these courses were supplemented with diploma programmes in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Technology, Electronics and Communication, and Computer Science, bringing the total to eight diploma courses. The institute is considered one of the oldest technical colleges in the region and benefits the public by providing engineering education. Admission to the institute is based on SSLC results and is conducted by the Department of Technical Education, Karnataka, during May–June each year. The institute also runs CCTEK, which provides training for interested external individuals, including computer training, technical training, and other courses such as karate, fine arts, driving classes, and special training for ladies like fashion designing, garment making, cutting and stitching, machine embroidery, craft training, and herbal beautician courses.
