MANIPUR INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY
Manipur University is a public central university situated in Imphal, the capital of Manipur, India. Its main campus lies at Canchipur, on the former site of the Langthabal Konung royal palace, established in 1827 by Maharaja Gambhir Singh. Founded by the Government of Manipur on 5 June 1980 under the Manipur University Act, 1980, it initially functioned as a state-run teaching-cum-affiliating university. It gained central university status through the Manipur University Act, 2005, effective from 13 October 2005. The university now comprises nine schools and forty-seven academic departments, and serves as the affiliating body for 119 colleges, including three medical colleges and one constituent college, the Manipur Institute of Technology. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission and was re-accredited by NAAC with a 'B+' grade in 2023. The campus spans about 287.53 acres and includes a library, hostels, a health centre, and other facilities. In 2018, it hosted the 105th Indian Science Congress, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
