National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) is a public law school in Kochi, India, established by an Act of the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 2005. It began as the National Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in 2002, affiliated with the Cochin University of Science and Technology, before being merged into the newly created university. Classes started in 2005 at the Government Girls' High School, Kaloor, and the university received its permanent 10-acre campus at Kalamassery in 2011. NUALS offers a five-year integrated BA, LL.B. program, a one-year LL.M. in Constitutional Law, Public Health Law, and International Trade Law, an Executive LL.M. for working professionals, postgraduate diplomas, and doctoral degrees. Admissions are conducted through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala serves as Chancellor, while the Chief Justice of India or a nominee serves as Visitor. The university is governed by Executive, General, and Academic Councils, and currently Prof. (Dr.) G. B. Reddy serves as Vice-Chancellor. NUALS also houses the Dr. N. Narayanan Nair Memorial Library, containing over 18,000 books and collections from notable legal scholars.
