Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal

The Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE) is a higher seat of learning, research and development in agricultural engineering, located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. Established on 15 February 1976, it is an autonomous body and a subsidiary of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), operating under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer's Welfare, Government of India. Originally mandated to address farm machinery, post-harvest technology, and energy in agriculture, its scope later expanded to include Agro-Industrial Extension, Instrumentation, and Irrigation and Drainage Engineering. CIAE undertakes adaptive, applied, and basic research for agricultural equipment, technology, and processing, and collaborates with state agricultural universities and national and international agencies. The institute houses numerous research laboratories, a research farm of 92.66 hectares, a prototype production workshop, a library, a Prioritization, Monitoring and Evaluation Cell, an Agricultural Knowledge Management Unit, a CAD cell, guest house facilities, and an International Training Centre. CIAE is affiliated to the Indian Agricultural Research Institute and is accredited by ICAR, New Delhi, for its MTech course in Energy in Agriculture. It also extends its infrastructure to students for research programs and hosts an Agricultural Technology Information Centre.
