Calcutta Girls B.T College

South Calcutta Girls College is an undergraduate women's college located in Kolkata, India, affiliated to the University of Calcutta. It holds the distinction of being the first girls' college in South Kolkata and the third oldest girls' college in West Bengal. The college was established by a group of lawyers led by Peary Mohan Chatterjee, originating in 1922 as a morning section of Beltala School under the Beltala Girls Education Society, chaired by freedom fighter Deshbandhu Chitta Ranjan Das, with Chatterjee as secretary. It became an independent institution in 1932, aiming to provide higher education to girls from middle-income families. In 1956, the college received affiliation from the University of Calcutta and has since expanded to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts, science, and commerce. The college offers B.A. (Hons.) in subjects such as Bengali, Education, English, History, Journalism and Mass Communication, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit, and Sociology, as well as B.Sc. (Hons.) in Botany, Economics, Geography, Zoology, and Psychology, along with B.Sc. General courses in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Statistics. Facilities include the Peary Mohan Chatterjee Library with over 23,000 books, a canteen, a hostel accommodating about 50 students, a gymnasium, and laboratories for various science subjects. Notable alumni include Pratima Barua Pandey, and notable faculty include Chittaranjan Das.
