THE MAHARAJA BHUPINDER SINGH PUNJAB SPORTS UNIVERSITY
The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), also known as Punjab Sports University, is a residential and affiliating sports state university situated in Patiala, Punjab, India. The idea of a sports university in Punjab was first announced by the Government of Punjab in June 2017. In July 2019, it was decided that the university would be named after Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. The institution was formally established in August 2019 under The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University Act, 2019, and received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in September of that year. Jagbir Singh Cheema was appointed as the university's first Vice-Chancellor. The university began functioning from a transit campus located at Prof. Gursewak Singh Government College of Physical Education. Plans are in place for a permanent campus spanning 97 acres (39 hectares) in Sidhowal village, within Patiala district, situated adjacent to the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law.
