Walchand College of Engineering , Vishrambag

Walchand College of Engineering is located in Vishrambag, roughly midway between Sangli and Miraj, Maharashtra, India, on a campus spanning about 90 acres. Founded in 1947 by Dhondumama Sathe, it began with an undergraduate Civil Engineering program for 60 students and was initially affiliated with Bombay University, then Pune University after 1948. In 1955 it was renamed after industrialist Walchand Hirachand, and since 1962 has been affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The college became autonomous in 2007, offering B.Tech. degrees with financial and academic autonomy. Over the years, it added programs in electrical, mechanical, computer science, electronics, and information technology engineering, along with postgraduate courses. The campus includes a central quadrangle, Tilak Hall, an open-air theatre, and the Ajit Gulabchand Central Library, described as one of the biggest libraries in Asia. It also has hostel facilities for both men (since 1958) and women (since 1987), with eight hostel blocks offering Wi-Fi connectivity. The college was selected under the World Bank-funded Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) in 2005, 2011, and 2017, and is known for its placement record and participation in SAE India events through its racing team, Team Aaryans.
