Sathyabama Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai

Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (SIST), located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was founded in 1987 as Sathyabama Engineering College by industrialist Jeppiaar Jesuadimai to provide higher technical education to Christian minorities in Tamil Nadu and South India. It later became Sathyabama University and was renamed SIST in 2018 following a central government directive. It received deemed-to-be-university status in 2001 under the UGC Act, 1956. The main campus spans 140 acres at Sholinganallur along the IT Corridor, with a dental college at Sithalapakkam and a satellite campus at Sriperumbudur. The university offers 48 undergraduate and 23 postgraduate accredited programs across 15 departments, spanning engineering, science, law, architecture, medicine, and management. It holds NAAC 'A++' accreditation, UGC 'Category 1 University' status, ISO 9001:2008 certification, and five QS stars. In 2016, in collaboration with ISRO, it launched the SathyabamaSat satellite. With around 15,600 students, it is one of the largest private universities in Tamil Nadu, though it has faced criticism for strict enforcement of moral discipline among students.
