SHIA P.G. COLLEGE, LUCKNOW

Shia College is a college located in old Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, affiliated with the University of Lucknow. It was established in 1919, though it was initially affiliated with Allahabad University, as it was founded just a year before Lucknow University came into existence. The idea for the college originated in the All India Shia Conference's 1910 session, with the foundation stone laid by Governor James Meston in 1917; the building was completed between 1928 and 1934. It first functioned as a school within the premises of Bada Imambara in 1919, became an Intermediate College in 1922, and later added degree classes in science in 1947. Over the decades, the college introduced Bachelor's programs in various subjects and attained Post-Graduate level status in 1995 with an M.A. in Urdu. The college consists of two teaching campuses: Sitapur Road Campus and Victoria Street Campus. Its administration includes a Board of Trustees, Managing Committee, College Committee, SHIACTA, and Procotorial Board. Shia P.G. College has been awarded an 'A' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), reflecting its long history of contribution to Indian society through its alumni, including academics, politicians, and bureaucrats.
