Regional Institute of Education

The Regional Institute of Education (RIE), formerly known as Regional College of Education, is a constituent unit of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. The RIEs were set up in 1963 by the Government of India in different parts of the country to achieve qualitative improvement of school education through innovative pre-service and in-service teacher education programmes, along with relevant research, development, and extension activities. The RIE located in Ajmer, along with those in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, and Mysore, caters to the educational needs of teachers and teacher educators in the States and Union Territories under its jurisdiction, offering pre-service professional training for school subject teaching. These institutes act as Regional Resource Institutions for school and teacher education, assisting in implementing state and UT policies and monitoring Centrally Sponsored Schemes. A Demonstration Multipurpose School (DMS) is attached to RIE Ajmer, serving as a laboratory for teacher preparation and a model school offering education from pre-school to senior secondary level. RIE Ajmer is affiliated with Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University Ajmer for certification of its graduates, with the university's Vice-Chancellor chairing the institute's managing committee, while NCERT oversees administrative affairs.
