ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines

The National Research Centre on Equines (NRCE) was established during the 7th five-year plan under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to conduct research on equine health and production, given the importance of equines in India. The Project Director joined at ICAR headquarters on 26 November 1985, and the Centre became operational at Hisar on 7 January 1986, conducting research and providing health coverage for equines. The Centre's objectives include research on health and production management in equines, developing diagnostic tools and biologicals for major equine diseases, and serving as a national referral facility for diagnosis, surveillance, and monitoring of equine diseases, along with diagnostic, advisory, and consultancy services. The Hisar campus is the main campus. A second campus was established in Bikaner on September 28, 1989, for research to improve technologies for optimizing equine production potential, with state-of-art laboratories in equine genetics, nutrition, medicine, reproduction, and management, and breeding programs for Marwari, Kathiawari, Zanskari, and Manipuri horses, as well as Poitou donkeys from France.
