Father Muller's College, Mangalore

Father Muller Medical College is a private medical school located at Kankanady in Mangaluru, Karnataka, and forms part of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI). Its origins trace to Father Muller Hospital, opened in 1880 by Fr. Augustus Muller, a German Jesuit priest who initially dispensed homeopathic medicine. The hospital later expanded into specialties such as leprosy care and nursing education, leading to the founding of the Fr. Muller Institute of Medical Education and Research (FMIMER) in 1989, which began postgraduate courses in 1991 and introduced the MBBS program in 1999, elevating it to medical college status. The college is administered by the Diocese of Mangalore and is affiliated with the Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital, along with other teaching hospitals and rural health centres in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. It offers a four-and-a-half-year MBBS course affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, along with undergraduate programs in physiotherapy, medical laboratory technology, audiology, and radiography. Postgraduate degrees and diplomas are offered in several medical specialties. The institution hosts annual cultural and sporting events, including “Mullerfest” and various themed festivals, and awarded degrees to 576 students during its 2015 Graduation Ceremony.
