Satyapriya Roy College of Education
Satyapriya Roy College of Education, situated in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, traces its origins to the All Bengal Teachers Training College, which was founded with Satyapriya Roy as one of its founders and long-serving president. In 2006, the college was renamed Satyapriya Roy College of Education to honor the contributions of Satyapriya Roy to school education and the teacher's movement in Bengal. Roy, born in 1907 in Mymensingh district (now Bangladesh), was a teacher and politician affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He served as General Secretary of the All Bengal Teachers Association (ABTA) from 1953 to 1964 and later as its President until 1977. He was also a member of the West Bengal Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly, representing Tollyganj constituency, and served as Education Minister in the second United Front government. Roy passed away on 11 February 1978. The renaming of the college reflects his lasting legacy in the field of teacher education and his lifelong dedication to the teaching profession in West Bengal.
