B D PETIT PARSEE GENERAL HOSPITAL MUMBAI

B.D. Petit Parsee General Hospital is a hospital situated in Cumballa Hill, Mumbai. Its origins trace back to 1896, when India was experiencing a severe famine and Mumbai's residents suffered from various deadly diseases. Navroji Hormusji Patuck, manager of Petit Mills, proposed establishing a hospital for the Parsee community to the Petit family. Parsi industrialist Bomanjee Dinshaw Petit founded the hospital, contributing an initial Rs 500 to start funding efforts. Navroji Nusserwanji Wadia and Dr. Kekhushroo N Bahadurji donated Rs 10,000 on behalf of the Parsee Panchayat, and a temporary hospital was set up in Parel. Bomanji later donated his property, the Cumballa Hill Family Hotel, along with securities worth INR 50,000, leading the committee to name the hospital after him. The foundation for the permanent hospital building was laid in 1907 by the Governor of Bombay, Sir George Clark. The hospital continues to rely on donations from the Zoroastrian community for its operations. Facilities include a main wing, laundry, nutrition section, senior citizens home, dispensary, and doctors' quarters, with the main wing renovated in 2009. The hospital also offers concessions for poor patients.
