Dayanand Science College, Latur

Dayanand Science College, Latur was established in 1961 as part of the Dayanand Education Society, founded in May of that year to bring higher education to the rural area of Latur, then a small town in the former Osmanabad District. Before the society's founding, students had to travel to cities like Hyderabad, Pune, and Mumbai for higher studies, which was financially difficult for children of farmers, agricultural laborers, and workers. Dignitaries including Manikrao Sonavane, Chandrashekhar Vajpeyi, Ramgopal Rathi, and Keshavrao Sonawane established the society to address this need. The society now runs eight colleges in Latur, including Dayanand Science College, Dayanand College of Commerce, Dayanand College of Arts, Dayanand College of Law, Dayanand College of Pharmacy, and others. The college offers education in both English and Marathi medium. It was earlier affiliated with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, but is now affiliated with Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University following the formation of a university in Nanded. The college conducted a state-level workshop titled 'Gateway to NET/SET exams' on 1 May 2010, and is also an authorized centre for ICAI's Chartered Accountancy examinations.
