CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF PETROCHEMICALS ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), previously known as the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, is an autonomous institution functioning under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. It was established in 1968 at Chennai through a collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Labor Organization (ILO). Since then, CIPET has expanded to have various campuses across the country, currently operating 43 centres, with nine more centres in the process of establishment. The institute was set up to develop skilled manpower in various disciplines of Plastics Engineering and Technology, as no similar institute existed in India at the time. CIPET serves as a premier academic institution for higher and technical education in the domain of plastics, offering specialized academic and skill development training programs in Polymer Science and Technology. It also provides technology support through consultancy services in design, tooling, plastics processing, testing, and quality assurance, along with dedicated research and development wings for new polymeric materials. Admission to CIPET centres is conducted through a joint entrance examination held annually.
