National Institute of Design, Madhya Pradesh (NID MP) is an autonomous institution situated in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, functioning under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It was brought under the NID Act, 2014 through the NID (Amendment) Bill, 2019, passed by Parliament and assented to by the President on 29 November 2019, coming into force on 13 January 2020. This legal status allows NID MP to offer Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Master of Design (M.Des.), and PhD degrees in Design. The institute currently offers a full-time four-year Bachelor of Design programme with specialization streams in Industrial Design, Communication Design, and Textile and Apparel Design, with an intake capacity of 75 students. The idea of strengthening design education in India was part of the National Design Policy envisioned in early 2007 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, aimed at supporting government initiatives like Make in India, Skill India, Digital India, Startup India, and Smart City projects. The NID MP campus is a green, residential campus set against a hilly backdrop, featuring facilities such as separate hostels for girls and boys, an auditorium, a library, and a mess and café.
