Netaji Mahavidyalaya

Netaji Mahavidyalaya, also known as Kalipur College, is one of the oldest colleges in Arambagh, in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. Established in 1948, it offers undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Sciences, and is affiliated to the University of Burdwan. The college emerged from developmental work following India's independence, with Radhakrishna Pal and others establishing it at Kalipur, on the western part of the Darkeswar, after Prafulla Sen and others had initially proposed a location near the present hospital. In 1966, students of the college organised a movement for its development, which turned into an anti-Prafulla Sen and anti-government movement, led by student leaders Abdul Mannan, Narayan Ch Ghosh, and Banibikash Mallick, forming the Arambagh Mahkuma Chhatra Sangram Committee; this contributed to Prafulla Sen losing his seat, marking a turning point in West Bengal politics. The college's Science faculty includes departments such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science & Application, Botany, Zoology, Plant Protection, Environmental Science, and Economics, while its Arts and Commerce faculty includes Bengali, English, Sanskrit, Santali, History, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy, Music, Physical Education, Education, Commerce, and Business Administration. The college has been re-accredited with a B++ grade by NAAC and is recognized by the UGC.
