RAI UNIVERSITY

Rai University (RU) is a private university situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, established in 2012 by the Rai Foundation through the Gujarat Private Universities Act (Amendment), 2012 — the same act that created Indus University. The institution originated from a university of the same name founded by the Rai Foundation in 2002 in Chhattisgarh, part of 46 universities created under a 2001 state act. That university grew to eleven campuses and 29 colleges before being dissolved in 2005 following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the enabling legislation. One of its former campuses, the Belapur campus in Ahmedabad established in 2004, was later reinstated as Rai University in 2012 at the invitation of the Gujarat government. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs including B.Sc., B.A., BBA, LLB, M.Sc., M.Tech., and MBA, along with engineering diplomas and Ph.D. positions, with admissions based on entrance exams and interviews. It is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The university comprises nine schools covering fields such as engineering, business, media, design, hospitality, fashion, law, agriculture, life sciences, and pharmacy. In 2016, the Gujarat government directed the university to halt admissions to unrecognized agriculture courses, leading to student protests.
