REGIONAL CENTRE FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY

The Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) is an autonomous institution of education, training and research established under the auspices of UNESCO and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. A Memorandum of Understanding establishing RCB was signed between the Government of India and UNESCO on 14 July 2006, and the centre is recognized as a 'Category II Centre' under UNESCO's guidelines. It became operational from an interim campus in Gurgaon, Haryana, from 20 April 2009, before planning to move to a permanent campus in Faridabad within the NCR Biotech Science Cluster. In 2016, the Indian Parliament passed the Regional Centre for Biotechnology Bill to provide statutory status to the institution. RCB conducts research in areas such as biomedical sciences, molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering, biophysics, and biotechnology policy. It offers a multidisciplinary doctoral programme, a Young Investigator Post-Doctoral Programme, short-term training programmes, and advanced workshops. RCB has established research facilities including imaging, structural biology, and proteomics equipment, and hosts the Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC). It also partners with national and international institutions, including Japan's AIST, for capacity building and research collaboration. Dr. Arvind Sahu serves as the executive director of RCB.
