SRINIVAS UNIVERSITY
Srinivas University is a private university situated in Mangaluru, Karnataka, India. It was established in 2015 by the A. Shama Rao Foundation under the Srinivas University Act, 2013, and forms part of the larger Srinivas Group of Institutions. The university held its sixth annual convocation ceremony on 10 February 2024 at its Mukka, Surathkal campus. It has conferred an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) upon Sri Vidyadheesha Tirtha Swamiji. The institution has been involved in several controversies: in 2016 it faced criticism and protests over a hijab ban at its Valachil Campus; in 2021, around ten students were arrested by Karnataka Police for violent ragging; the group also came under scrutiny during IT raids in 2021 connected to the NEET Cancellation Scandal. In 2025, a case was registered against the university for violating Coastal Regulation Zone norms by encroaching on the riverbed of the Nandini River in Mukka. These incidents reflect a history of legal and social challenges alongside its academic activities.
