Victoria Institution
Victoria Institution (VI) is an all-boys secondary school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, serving male students from Form 1 to 5, while female students join for Form 6. It was founded through public subscription to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887, with its foundation stone laid in 1893 and the school officially opening in 1894. Due to flooding, it relocated to Jalan Hang Tuah in 1929. The building later hosted the Japanese surrender in 1945 and subsequently served other institutions before becoming a cultural centre. In 2009, the building was declared a National Heritage site, and the school reverted to its historic name, Victoria Institution. The school was also featured on a Malaysian postage stamp in 2008. Its campus includes a clock tower, sports pavilions, a swimming pool, and athletics facilities. VI has a longstanding prefect system and a cadet corps established in 1901. The school has strong sports programs, notably in rugby, football, and cricket, including national cricket development recognition and multiple championship titles.
