Dyal Singh College Karnal
Dyal Singh College is a co-educational institute that is a constituent college of the University of Delhi, established in 1959. Its origins trace back to the estate of Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, founder of The Tribune and Punjab National Bank, who in 1895 willed his estate for the establishment of a secular educational trust. This led to the founding of Dyal Singh College in Lahore in 1910. After the Partition of India, Dyal Singh College was established in both Karnal and Delhi. The Delhi college began functioning at Rouse Avenue as a constituent college of the University of Delhi from 5 August 1959, and moved to its present location in Delhi on 16 October 1962. It was taken over by the University of Delhi as a university-maintained institution in 1978. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in science, humanities, and commerce, with departments including Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, English, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, and others. It is ranked 34th among colleges in India by the NIRF in 2024. Notable alumni include several politicians, actors, and academics.
