North Bengal Medical College

North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMC&H) is a public medical college and hospital situated in Sushrutanagar, near Siliguri, West Bengal, India. Established in 1968, it was the first medical college in North Bengal, originally envisioned by Bidhan Chandra Roy and planned by health minister Ajit Kumar Panja. It was initially called North Bengal University Medical College, later renamed in August 1978. The college gained recognition from the Medical Council of India in 1978. It introduced postgraduate MD/MS courses in 2004, which were recognized by the Medical Council of India in 2007, with more specialties added over time. Undergraduate intake has increased over the years, reaching 200 seats by 2019 under the EWS scheme. The campus spans 161 acres and includes the North Bengal Dental College and Nursing Training College. The hospital has a bed strength of 1,500 and established a Virus Research & Diagnostic Laboratory in 2021, expanding its testing capacity for various viruses, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally affiliated with the University of North Bengal and later with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences starting from the 2003 admission batch. Admission to MBBS is based on NEET (UG) scores conducted by the NTA.
