Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development
The Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development is an autonomous institute situated in Guwahati, Assam. It was established in 1989 through a joint initiative of the Government of Assam and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. The institute promotes and coordinates research on the problems and processes of social transformation and development in Assam and other states of the North Eastern region of India. Formerly known as the Institute for Social Change and Development, it was renamed in 1995 by the Government of Assam after Omeo Kumar Das, the first Education Minister of Assam, as a mark of respect on his birth centenary. The Chief Minister of Assam, Sri Tarun Gogoi, laid the foundation stone of the Institute on 13 April 2005, and the building was inaugurated on 20 February 2009. The institute offers several programmes, including a PhD Programme, a Post Graduate Certificate Course on North East India Studies, a Research Methodology Course, a Computer Application Course, a Ph.D. Fellowship Programme, a Visiting Fellows Programme, training programmes, data consultancy, and lectures, seminars, and workshops.
