Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) is a government medical college and teaching hospital in Shivamogga, Karnataka, India, established in 2005 by the Government of Karnataka to expand medical education and healthcare access in central Karnataka. It was built on land within the premises of the historic Government McGann Hospital. The campus, spanning about 25 acres on Sagar Road along NH 206, includes academic buildings, laboratories, lecture theatres, a library, an auditorium, and hostels. SIMS offers an MBBS program with an annual intake of about 150 students admitted via NEET-UG, as well as MD/MS postgraduate degrees through NEET-PG, and allied health science bachelor's and diploma courses in fields like cardiac care technology and medical imaging. Its teaching hospital, the Government McGann Teaching District Hospital, has 950 beds and was constructed between 1932 and 1935, named after Dr. Thomas George McGann. The hospital provides multi-specialty services and serves as the primary clinical training site for SIMS students. SIMS comprises various academic departments including Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, General Medicine, and Surgery, among others. The institute is affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and recognised by the National Medical Commission.
