Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) is a private institute situated in Majitar, Pakyong district, Sikkim, India. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering, management, computer application and basic science, along with doctoral programs, across thirteen academic departments. SMIT came into existence in 1997 following an agreement signed on 15 November 1992 between the Sikkim Government and the Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG), forming one of India's early public-private partnership institutions. It initially operated from a temporary campus in Tadong before moving to its permanent campus in Majitar in 1999. SMIT is part of the Manipal Group and holds approvals from AICTE and UGC, with accreditation from NBA and NAAC, as well as ISO 9001 certification. Admission is conducted through the SMIT Online Admission Test, a national-level entrance exam, with some seats reserved for MET and JEE. The institute has been ranked among top private engineering colleges in Eastern India and India by various publications. SMIT also conducts research through sponsored projects and hosts an Atal Incubation Centre supporting startups in the North Eastern Region.
