Dhenkanal Autonomous College, Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal Autonomous College, commonly referred to as Dhenkanal College, is an autonomous college situated in Dhenkanal, Odisha, India. The institution provides undergraduate and post-graduate programs across commerce, sciences, and liberal arts disciplines. It maintains an affiliation with Utkal University, a public sector higher education institution based in Bhubaneshwar. The college was established in 1959, and after several decades of operation, it was granted autonomous status in 2002. This autonomy allows the college greater flexibility in curriculum design and academic governance. In 2019, the University Grants Commission (UGC) considered the possibility of revoking the college's autonomous status, but ultimately decided to extend it, granting the institution continued autonomy until 2023. Dhenkanal Autonomous College thus stands as an example of a long-established educational institution in Odisha that has evolved over time, balancing affiliation with a larger university system while maintaining a degree of independent academic administration through its autonomous status.
