Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science & Technology of Kashmir, Srinagar

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) is an agricultural university with its main campus and Faculty of Horticulture located in Shalimar, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It was founded in 1982 by an Act of the State Legislature of Jammu and Kashmir and named after Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, known as Sher-e-Kashmir. Initially, it had jurisdiction over the entire state, but in 1998–99 the territorial jurisdiction was redefined, leading to the creation of a separate university, SKUAST-Jammu, for Jammu Division. SKUAST-K now has jurisdiction over the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, covering two agro-ecological zones: the mid-high altitude temperate Kashmir Valley and the cold-arid Ladakh region. The university operates multiple faculties, including Agriculture in Wadura (Sopore), Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Shuhama (Ganderbal), Sericulture in Mirgund, Fisheries in Rangil, Forestry in Benhama, and Agricultural Engineering and Technology in Shalimar. It also maintains numerous research centers across the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, such as the Ambri Apple Research Centre and Saffron Research Station, and is affiliated with Krishi Vighan Kendras (KVKs) in every district. In 2024, the NIRF ranked SKUAST-K 10th among agriculture institutes in India.
